Young table tennis players from Worthing Table Tennis Club enjoyed an inspiring day of training and friendship after travelling to the Isle of Wight for a joint coaching session with local junior players.
Eight junior players from Worthing TTC joined eight juniors from the Isle of Wight for a full day of high-quality coaching, focusing on three key areas of the modern game: serve, return of serve, and third-ball attack. The training day was led by Worthing TTC Head Coach Matt Porter, a Level 4 coach, who delivered a series of engaging sessions designed to improve technical skills while encouraging players to learn alongside new training partners.
As well as developing the young players, the visit also provided an opportunity to support the continued development of coaching on the Isle of Wight. Matt worked closely with the Isle of Wight coaches, sharing new drills, training methods, and coaching ideas that can be used to help develop more players across the island. The exchange of knowledge between coaches was an important part of the day, strengthening links between the two clubs and helping to build opportunities for future collaboration.
The day was about much more than table tennis. By bringing together young players from different clubs, the event encouraged them to meet new people, make friends, and enjoy the social side of the sport. Throughout the day, players mixed together in drills and practice matches, creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere both on and off the table.
The exchange highlighted the value of table tennis in connecting young people, building confidence, and developing lasting friendships through sport. Coaches from both clubs were delighted with the enthusiasm, commitment, and sportsmanship shown by all 16 players.
Worthing TTC would like to thank the Isle of Wight Table Tennis community for their warm hospitality and for helping make the day such a success. Both clubs hope the event will be the first of many opportunities for young players to train together, share coaching expertise, and strengthen the links between the two table tennis communities.
