A major milestone for Worthing Table Tennis Club as Matt takes on National coaching development role
Worthing Table Tennis Club is delighted to announce that Head Coach Matt Porter has been appointed as a Table Tennis England Coach Mentor, a role that recognises his experience, commitment and contribution to the development of table tennis.
The appointment is a significant achievement for Matt personally, but also represents an exciting moment for Worthing Table Tennis Club. It highlights the reputation the club has developed since its formation and reflects its ambitions to not only grow participation, but to help develop the people who make the sport successful.
As a Coach Mentor, Matt will support other coaches across England, helping them develop their skills, reflect on their coaching practice and continue to improve the experiences they create for players. The role is part of Table Tennis England’s wider commitment to building a stronger, more connected coaching workforce across the sport.
Importantly, this new role will not affect Matt’s commitment to Worthing Table Tennis Club. Matt will continue as Head Coach, leading the club’s extensive coaching programme, supporting players of all ages and working with the club’s team of coaches and volunteers.
Matt’s appointment strengthens those ambitions even further, while supporting the wider table tennis community.
By being involved in the development of coaches nationally, Matt will bring new ideas, knowledge and experiences back into the club, supporting the continued development of WTTC’s coaching programme, player pathways and community projects.
Matt Porter said:
“Being appointed as a Coach Mentor is a huge honour and something I am extremely proud of. Coaching has always been about helping people improve, whether that is a player taking their first steps, a young person developing confidence, or another coach looking to grow.
“However, my commitment to Worthing Table Tennis Club remains exactly the same. This club is built around people, and I am excited about how this opportunity can help us continue to develop, learn and provide even more opportunities for our members.”
Worthing Table Tennis Club director Sally Hughes
“This is fantastic recognition for Matt and for everyone involved with Worthing Table Tennis Club. The appointment shows the quality of coaching and development environment we are building here in Worthing.
“Matt’s new role will only strengthen the club. It gives us another opportunity to learn, share best practice and continue our journey of becoming a leading community table tennis club.”
The club will continue to deliver its full programme of coaching sessions, leagues, competitions and community activities, with Matt remaining at the heart of WTTC’s ongoing growth and development.
