Worthing Table Tennis Club has announced the launch of the new Worthing Central League, an exciting and modern approach to local league table tennis that promises more playing time, a better atmosphere and greater accessibility for players across Sussex.
The decision follows the outstanding success of the club’s inaugural Central Summer League, where players praised the fast-paced format, professional organisation and welcoming atmosphere. Encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive feedback, the club has chosen to build on that success by introducing the Worthing Central League as its flagship weekly competition.
Designed with players at its heart, the new league offers a refreshing alternative to traditional formats. Instead of spending long periods waiting for matches or travelling between venues, competitors will enjoy an evening of continuous action, with every player involved in four of the five matches played in each fixture.
Head Coach Matthew Porter believes the new league represents an exciting step forward for local table tennis.
“We asked players what they wanted from league table tennis, and they were incredibly clear. They wanted more time playing, less time waiting, a friendly atmosphere, reliable organisation and a competition that fitted around modern life. The Worthing Central League has been built around that feedback.
“The response to our Summer League was fantastic. Players loved the format, they loved the atmosphere and they loved spending the whole evening together in one venue. It created a real sense of community, and we knew we wanted to build on that success.”
The Worthing Central League will be played every week at Bohunt School, with fixtures running from 7.00pm until 9.00pm. Keeping every match under one roof removes the need for players to travel to different venues across the town during the winter months while creating a lively, social environment where there’s always something happening.
The league has also been designed to be more accessible than ever before. Open to both club members and community – members, it welcomes everyone from juniors entering league competition for the first time through to experienced players looking for regular, high-quality matches.
With multiple divisions catering for different standards, the league offers a clear pathway for players to start competing, continue developing their game and progress as their standard improves.
The club has already received commitments from players based in Brighton, Horsham and Chichester, adding further strength and variety to the competition and helping to establish the league as one of the most exciting local table tennis competitions in the South East.
The league will be played over three five-week rounds, with every sixth week becoming a Central League Festival Night. These evenings will feature optional competitions including singles, doubles, handicap tournaments and themed events, giving players even more opportunities to compete in a fun and relaxed environment.
As with all Worthing Table Tennis Club activities, the Central League will be delivered in a professionally managed environment with appropriate safeguarding, welfare and organisational procedures in place.
Matthew Porter added:
“Our aim has always been to make table tennis accessible, enjoyable and welcoming for everyone. Whether you’re an experienced league player, someone returning to the sport or a junior looking to play your first competitive matches, we want this league to be somewhere people enjoy coming to every week.
“This isn’t just another league. It’s about creating a fantastic experience where players spend more time playing, less time waiting, make new friends and enjoy being part of a thriving table tennis community.”
Entries for the inaugural Worthing Central League are now open.
