A youthful team from Worthing Table Tennis Club showed determination and promise as they competed in the final round of the Junior British Clubs League season in Southampton.
The Junior British Clubs League is a national competition for players under 19 and provides an important pathway for young athletes to gain experience against strong opposition from across the region.
Worthing’s team was among the youngest in their division, featuring two 14-year-olds alongside a 16-year-old, taking on teams largely made up of older and more experienced players. Despite the age difference, the squad demonstrated great resilience and produced several competitive performances throughout the day.
After battling to maintain their place in the division during the first two rounds of the season, the team showed clear improvement in the final stage and finished the day in an impressive bronze medal position.
The day began with a 4–2 victory over Hastings, with Nathanael Craig the standout performer, winning both of his singles matches. This was followed by a hard-fought 3–3 draw against Weymouth.
The team’s only defeat of the day came against eventual champions Kennet Vale. Worthing bounced back strongly with a 4–2 win over Brighton, with Zak Heap delivering an excellent performance to win both of his singles matches. The day concluded with another closely contested 3–3 draw against Kingsway.
Despite being one of the youngest sides in the competition, the Worthing team left Southampton with plenty of positives and valuable match experience as they continue their progress through the national junior ranks.
With a strong youth programme and a growing junior membership, Worthing Table Tennis Club continues to provide opportunities for young players to develop and compete at both regional and national level.
