Worthing Table Tennis Club was once again at the forefront of table tennis development, this time helping Table Tennis England launch a new Girls Only Cadet League pilot.
The Cadet League has long been an important part of player development in England, but the introduction of an all-girls competition marks an exciting step forward for girls’ table tennis. Worthing TTC was one of only four host clubs selected for the pilot year of the event.
The initiative has been designed to encourage greater participation and development opportunities for girls in table tennis, providing a supportive and competitive environment where young female players can gain valuable match experience.
Worthing TTC had two teams competing in the opening round of fixtures. The A Team featured Ava and Evie Muggeridge, while the B Team consisted of Charlotte Griffiths and Ivy Xu.
Both teams finished tied on 14 points, but the A Team secured second place thanks to a superior sets ratio and will now be pushing for promotion when the league resumes in June.
Coaches and parents praised the atmosphere throughout the event, with the girls enjoying the opportunity to compete against players from other clubs in a format specifically designed to support female participation in the sport.
Sally Hughes from Worthing TTC said:
“We are incredibly proud to have had two teams competing in the very first Girls Only Cadet League pilot. The girls represented the club brilliantly, showed fantastic team spirit and gained invaluable experience. Initiatives like this are vital for growing the female game and giving young players confidence to compete.”
Worthing Table Tennis Club continues to expand its junior programme and welcomes new players of all ages and abilities interested in trying the sport.
