A Summer of Table Tennis Comes to a Thrilling Close at Worthing TTC

Worthing Table Tennis Club has brought another successful Central Summer League to a close, capping off five weeks of exciting competition, community spirit and outstanding performances at Bohunt School.

Designed to keep players active during the off-season, the league once again proved to be a huge success, welcoming both club members and non-members to enjoy regular competitive table tennis in a relaxed and friendly environment. Played in an exciting 2 v 2 Davis Cup format, the competition showcased everything that makes the sport so special – teamwork, determination, sportsmanship and fun.

This year’s league reflected the club’s commitment to making table tennis accessible to everyone. Twenty-five per cent of participants were female and 25% were juniors, with players ranging from experienced league competitors to those playing in their very first competitive matches. With playing ranging from their 80’s to the youngest being just 11.

After five weeks of action, three deserving champions were crowned.

The Mad Batters produced a dominant campaign, finishing unbeaten on 23 points to comfortably secure the Division One title. Guess Who claimed second place on 14 points, while Smart & Smarter edged Chop and Slap into third on countback after both teams finished level on 13 points. The division featured an exceptionally high standard of table tennis throughout, with several closely contested matches keeping the title race exciting until the final week.

🏆 Division Two Champions – Lewick

Lewick matched the achievement of the Division One champions, finishing unbeaten on 23 points to lift the Division Two trophy. Hairbands & Hairlines secured second place with 15 points, while Net Assist narrowly claimed third ahead of The Backhanders on countback after both teams finished on 12 points. The division demonstrated the depth of talent across the club, with competitive matches from start to finish.

🏆 Division Three Champions – AJ’s

Mighty Worthing claimed second place with 16 points despite playing one fewer match, while Muggeridge edged Pong Pioneers into third place on countback after both teams finished on 15 points. The division provided a fantastic platform for developing players to gain valuable competitive experience and build confidence.

Alongside the team titles, the league also recognised some exceptional individual performances.

Current Worthing Singles Champion Brandon Bennett topped the Division One individual averages, underlining his quality against the club’s strongest players.

The club’s junior programme also shone brightly, with two of Worthing’s rising stars claiming individual honours. Vincent Ridley won the Division Two averages, while Ashley Almeida finished top of the Division Three averages, highlighting the strength of the club’s player development pathway and the exciting talent progressing through the junior ranks.

Head Coach Matthew Porter said:

“The Central Summer League has become one of the highlights of our calendar. It provides players with the opportunity to stay active during the summer, enjoy regular competitive matches and continue developing their game in a welcoming and enjoyable environment.”

“What makes me particularly proud is seeing such a diverse mix of people taking part. Having 25% female participation and 25% junior participation shows that we’re continuing to build a club that is open and accessible to everyone. Seeing juniors competing alongside experienced adults, learning from them and even winning individual honours demonstrates just how bright the future of table tennis in Worthing is.”

Beyond the results, the Summer League once again demonstrated the community spirit that has become synonymous with Worthing Table Tennis Club. Teams were made up of families, friends, experienced league players and emerging juniors, creating an atmosphere where competitive sport and social connection went hand in hand.

Worthing Table Tennis Club now welcomes more than 400 people every week, aged from 6 to 86, through coaching programmes, league competition, school partnerships and community initiatives, making it one of the fastest-growing table tennis clubs in the South of England.

While the Summer League may have come to an end, there is plenty more to look forward to. August promises to be another busy month with the club’s popular Summer School, welcoming players from across the country for four days of intensive coaching, followed by the Adult Coaching Afternoon, before attention turns to hosting the prestigious Worthing 2 Star National Ranking Tournament on 15 August. Preparations are also well underway for the launch of the new winter season, with even more opportunities for players of all ages and abilities to get involved.
