Worthing had a good day on the table at the Cippenham Mixed Teams 2* on Sunday the 18th January. With two teams representing the club – Worthing Ladies (Sally Hughes and Holly Holder) and Pongsters (Isaac Burgess and Samuel Chen), there was plenty of good table tennis to be had. The format of the competition was the addition of two singles matches – one played by each player – a deciding singles match in the case of a draw, and a progressive knockout format ensuring lots of matches throughout the day.
Sally and Holly took wins over Ashford Ashquires, St Mary’s TT, Pingsters, and an excellent win over Equipment Junkies to end the day off, ultimately finishing 9th out of 24 teams, the highest finishing all-women’s team. Holly put up a good fight against Rayan Ansari, part of the team that ultimately finished 2nd, and Sally came close against Matthew Horrocks, part of the eventual 8th place finishers.
Isaac and Sam took a win over Stanmore B, and were unlucky to not take a couple more, with 4 individual singles matches won, and several close games lost in the 5th set. The team put up a good display against St Mary’s TT, narrowly losing 2-1. Friends of the club Mark Collins and Dan Pound finished 5th overall.
