Local MP visits WTTC

Worthing Table Tennis Club welcomed local MP Tom Rutland on Saturday 17 January 2026 for a special visit at Bohunt School, highlighting the important role grassroots sport plays in the local community.

During the visit, Mr Rutland met with players, coaches, and volunteers from the club, learning more about its work to promote table tennis across all ages and abilities. The MP observed training sessions in action and spoke with junior and adult members about the benefits of sport for physical health, mental wellbeing, and social inclusion.

Worthing Table Tennis Club, which operates out of Bohunt School, has become a hub for competitive and recreational players alike, offering regular coaching, league play, and development opportunities for young people. The club is run by dedicated team and continues to grow in membership, reflecting increasing interest in accessible, community-based sport.

Speaking during the visit, Tom Rutland MP praised the club’s contribution to the area, saying:
“Clubs like Worthing Table Tennis Club are vital to our community. They provide opportunities for people of all ages to stay active, build confidence, and connect with others. It’s been great to see the enthusiasm here today and to meet the volunteers who make it all possible.”

Club representatives used the opportunity to discuss the challenges faced by grassroots sports organisations, including facility access, funding, and the need for continued support to encourage participation among young people and families.

Matt Porter said:
“We were delighted to welcome Tom Rutland to the club. His visit was a fantastic chance to showcase what we do and the positive impact table tennis has locally. We’re proud of our members and grateful for the support we receive from the wider community.”

The visit concluded with an informal rally and photo opportunity, underlining the club’s friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
